I want to give my sincere and heartfelt thanks to the National Benefit Authority for all the the hard work and help they have given to our family. I am 77 years old and have pulmonary embolisms (blood clots) in my lungs. I hesitated to apply to NBA for help to pay for some of my equipment as I felt I am not handicapped until my doctor convinced me I am and qualified for help. Everyone at NBA was so kind, helpful and considerate it was a joy to work with you and again a big Thank You.
Not only did they help me but they helped our daughter who is mentlly challenged. Our daughter came early into the world at 3lbs and 10 oz. and picked up a staff infection in the incubator, high fever followed and there was some brain damage. When he was six and we took her for testing in
Toronto we were told she would accompolish nothing in her lifetime and to drop her and forget and carry on with our lives. Our daugher completed high school, all in special classes and then attended a Vocational College but unfortunately was not able to get a job so volunteered for 32 years in an Extended Care Hospital in many areas. The part of her brain that was damaged makes it very difficult for her to do anything mathmatical and so after 32 years she was let go from her job at the hospital for miscounting linen. One door closes and another opens and so she attended a program at Goodwill Industries (which I highly recommend) and she now has been working as a greeter at Walmart and loves her job, and she is getting paid.
We have two younger sons who are married and have families and are precious to us and our daughter who is single is a large part of our life…..we are a threesome. Her social life is with us, we holiday together and she is a good person. We thank God every day for her and we thank NBA for the financial help they have given us allowing us to help her in her own apt. and preparing her for when we are no longer here.
Our daughter is now 55 yrs old and a very special person.
From our family we send a big Thank You to NBA.
